My Approach to Helping
My counselling style is rooted in authenticity, humility, empathy, and compassion. I am curious and open to the growth that can occur within a therapeutic alliance and understand that a relationship requires trust, a sense of safety, and mutual understanding. I believe in the importance of collaboration, genuine connection, creativity, and spontaneity within the here and now of a session, and my intention is to walk with and alongside those that I support as we remove barriers to health and happiness, establish or maintain a sense of well-being, and create positive change.
I practice using a mindful, client-centered, strength-based, and solution-focused approach. I am influenced by Internal Family Systems (IFS), narrative, existential, and emotionally focused modalities, as well as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I strive to meet clients where they are at, adapting and moulding my approach to suit their unique needs. With this, I see counselling as an interpersonal exploration that is driven by the therapeutic relationship, not by theory. My practice is holistic and integrative, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive, with emphasis placed on empowerment and self-determination.
Taking ownership and becoming an expert in one's own life requires vulnerability, patience, and courage and I am committed to supporting your journey.
