My Approach to Helping
I am a professional counselor because I want to empower people to be their best in relationships with themselves and others. I help my clients reconnect with themselves and what matters most to them. I help them align to their North Star and set a course towards personal growth...even in the most challenging times. I envision the work I do with people, families, and groups to be an expression of my commitment to positive social change in my community and across the state.
My counselor identity is complemented by 23+ years of service as a Navy chaplain, where I gained significant experience with integrating personal belief systems into the care I provided Sailors and Marines from diverse religious backgrounds. My wide range of counseling expertise includes issues related to military service, caregiving fatigue, and life transitions. I am most familiar with issues related to anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, anger management, burnout, compassion fatigue, coping skills, and military service. I use an integrative treatment approach that respects cultural beliefs and practices, integrating them into holistic treatment plans that empower my clients to meet the challenges that keep them from being their best selves. I track progress through client-reported outcomes to ensure treatment plans are achieving the results my clients most want to see.
I am a Nationally Certified Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors and a board-certified telemental health counselor through the Center for Credentialing and Education.
