My Approach to Helping
I specialize in helping you to live fully with the effects of past and ongoing Trauma. But instead of you and me sitting in an office and talking for an hour, our sessions are outdoors, in an open space surrounded by the beauty of majestic mountains; and in the company of horses. The term for this type of trauma work is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and for many, has been found to be a better approach to healing than talk therapy.
And, for what it's worth, in the case of trauma, and depending on it's severity, rarely have I experienced a patient being talked out of their horrific experiences of trauma.
For so many of the kids and families I work with it's their ungrieved losses, unresolved guilt, or unforgiven shame that go neglected due to living in a culture that often overlooks our need to grieve these losses and to practice self-compassion.. When we are in the presence of horses with our suffering, however, the healing journey of the wounded soul begins. The horses seem to just stand by our side with strength and beauty and abide, without judgment, with our soul.
How Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Works.
Together with my partnerequine specialist, we will help you form a sacred bond with horses from our herd, and in this hands-on, experiential approach to your therapy, you will learn about yourself and develop confidence enough to try new skills as you partner up with your team of horses. The work we do is all on the ground, that is, there is no riding involved, and is based on sound, well-researched therapeutic principles.
