My Approach to Helping
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I have worked with individuals from all walks of life struggling with various mental health concerns. I believe in the importance of trust and respect in the therapeutic relationship.
I approach psychotherapy as a partnership - I believe most people have the answers within themselves and need someone to help them uncover those answers. My specialties include trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and couples counseling. However, I am open to working with many other mental health concerns and issues.
My "ideal client" is the one in front of me. Every person has unique strengths and challenges, and I enjoy helping you sort through all of that. I communicate openly and honestly during therapy. I'm here to listen, and to understand.
I think I've always known I wanted to be or was meant to be, a therapist. My friends and family have always come to me to talk about their feelings and challenges from a young age. I have received extensive training over the years, in addition to my education, in various areas including - cultural competence, depression, anxiety, LGBTQIA issues, aging, addictions, couples counseling, and many other areas.
I expect my clients to define their own success and progress. They set their own goals and decide for themselves what progress looks like.
The first session usually consists of introducing myself, letting my clients know what they can expect from me as a therapist, and gathering information from them in terms of their background, why they are seeking treatment, etc.
