My Approach to Helping
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I earned my Master of Arts degree in Psychology from Antioch University in Seattle, WA. I am also a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider and certified in EMDR therapy. I have extensive education in treating trauma. I work with individuals and families who have a variety of problems: painful relationships, impaired self-esteem, trauma related symptoms, acting out behaviors, and general feelings of unhappiness andor anxiety. I respect my clients’ competencies and invite full participation in the healing process: identifying, facing, and overcoming the obstacles that stand between you and the achievement of the goals you have set.
My counseling approach is based on several different theories. These theories are EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral, and Family Systems. Therapy may include analyzing the dynamics within your family system and the roles people play within your family. With increased awareness you can choose healthier ways of dealing with conflict or distress. I may assist you in processing small andor big traumas that trigger or drive unhealthy thinking and behaving. These processes can and often do release a host of feelings such as anger, guilt, sadness, and fear. These reactions are usually temporary, and you should expect to experience mixed feelings as part of the therapy process. I may use a variety of different techniques based on these theories and will rely on your feedback to know if a certain technique is helpful.
