What's My Approach to Therapy?
I work with adults with trauma, and as an ACT counselor I believe much of the problems people experience comes from avoidance. Trauma can lead to intense emotions, intrusive memories, and negative thought patterns, and as humans’ avoidance is a natural reaction to the pain and suffering caused by these. Avoidance can come in all shapes and sizes opting out of experiences, substance use, isolating ourselves, binging or disordered eating patterns, people pleasing, and so much more. These behaviors, while helpful in the moment, may leave us feeling stuck, frustrated, and or unfulfilled in life.
I am a compassionate and curious counselor that helps clients develop awareness and insight of unhelpful behaviors, and teaches skills to be more emotionally open, develop flexible thinking, and be able to engage in meaningful and purposeful actions even when difficult inner world experiences happen. I am also trained in EMDR to help process deeper trauma.
Reaching out for help can be difficult and scary. However, if you are wanting to get out of unhelpful cycles and behaviors, and start to live a more valued based life, I would be honored to work with you towards your goals. If you feel like we are a good match, or would like a free consultation, you can call, email, or make an appointment on my website.
