My Approach to Helping
Kietha is a Marriage and Family Therapist who feels a relationship is a union between individuals that choose the happiness of their partner(s). In helping partners access non-verbalized emotions, acknowledge past hurts, and process underlying emotions (that you may not know to exist). It may provide understanding into those everyday disputes and decreased miscommunication. Kietha’s therapeutic approach integrates Gottman Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Collaborative Language Systems Theory to help clients reconstruct negative core beliefs, value systems, and personal narratives that do not reflect who they are. Her approach also allows the couple/individuals to understand how past experiences affect perception, engagement, and understanding of language. We must all understand ourselves before we can understand others.
Kietha graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (Education) to become an elementary teacher. She has always had a dream of helping others. As a teacher, she saw there was a need to not only help her students but each member of the family, which allows support and space for change to take place—seeing this need started her on the path of obtaining a Master of Science in Psychology, specializing in Family, Couples, and Individual Psychotherapy from Our Lady of the Lake University-Houston. She has experience in providing couple, individual, family, and group therapy in a variety of settings, including in/outpatient and private practice. She worked as a clinical therapist intern in a psychiatric hospital with children, adolescents, and adults of varying concerns and situations.
Kietha started Heart of Mind Therapy, PLLC, in 2021, hoping to provide the community with inclusive service to all involved. She works with compassion to provide a safe space free of judgment to have those difficult conversations. She aims to help highlight inner strength, insight, and problem solving skills, as well as, help discover new tools to overcome struggles, discover your strengths, and have a happier, more fulfilling day-to-day life.
