My Approach to Helping
Depression is a parasite that feeds off your life, stealing your hope, motivation, and energy. But when you know how it works, you start to gain power over it, and hope starts to sprout again.
Coming from a human givens perspective, I'm solution-focused and emphasize meeting your primal human needs in healthy ways that make the most of your inherent strengths and resources. Because problems with rumination and restless sleep often form the basis of depression, my approach includes helping you relax, improve your sleep, and learn to deal with your daily stressors more effectively so that they don't make you anxious and restless. We'll also consider your lifestyle to ensure that your body is getting the nourishment and care it needs to support your mental health.
Some therapists will tell you therapy will make you feel worse before you feel better, but there's no reason it should be that way. By the end of our first session, you should be feeling relieved and hopeful. Once you've learned to relax and are sleeping better, future work will seem easier, and we can move on to discovering what isn't working in your life and what we can do about it. We'll collaborate to solve the problems we can and develop new perspectives on the things you can't control. We'll build your resilience and develop the resources and skills you need to start meeting your previously neglected needs so that the depression can't return.
My practice is fully online and available to adults anywhere in Texas, Sundays through Wednesdays. Please reach out if you're interested in a free, 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit.
