My Approach to Helping
In life, moments of pain are inevitable. However, we unintentionally add suffering on top of the pain in an attempt to cope in the best way we know how.
If you are struggling with difficult feelings, relationship uncertainty, self-criticism, intrusive thoughts, maladaptive behaviors, or hurtful beliefs, it is truly painful. Our reaction to pain is usually to ignore it, distract ourselves, or push it down. We may not be able to choose when and how pain comes to us but we can choose the way we respond when it arrives.
I take a strengths-based approach in partnering with you to remind you that you are an active agent in your own healing journey. I strive to be affirming in my techniques while working with you to create a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs and goals.
I operate from several different theoretical frameworks and I work to take an eclectic approach initially to see what might suit you best. Whether you want to try a specific method or you prefer to experiment with different styles, I take your feedback into account and incorporate it into our sessions.
I am proud of your courage in taking the first step to seek out support and I want to acknowledge that this can bring additional fear or anxiety. You are doing some tough work already!
If you have a willingness to get curious about what isn't working in your life, let's partner together to discover what is more workable. I am honored to be here for you however you need.
