I utilize an integrative-psychotherapeutic approach which uses your biopsychosocial history and continually assess your current stage of change, coping style, reactance level, and treatment preferences to decide techniques effective in addressing the presenting problem. As such, my role as counselor will change to match your needs; whether it be advisor, supporter, consultant, etc.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Self-exploration is a key component of psychotherapy. It may lead to changes in your belief system, decision-making, career, relationships, and understanding of self. As the healing process often begins with speaking about past emotional wounds, you may experience feelings of anxiety, sadness, helplessness, guilt, frustration, loneliness, or anger during treatment. You may even become temporarily distressed as you gain a deeper understanding of the person you are and the life choices you have made.

Nevertheless, therapy has proven to be extremely beneficial for many people with mental and behavioral health issues. For example, professional counseling may result in increased self-awareness, better relationships, resolutions to longstanding issues, the development of healthy coping skills, personal growth, increased happiness, and less stress. However it is important to remember that each person and each situation is unique. There is no guarantee psychotherapy will work exactly the same way for you as it did for someone else. In fact, successful therapy will require hard work and dedication on your part?especially when applying recommendations outside of the treatment room. Although we cannot predict what the exact outcome will be, I am committed to helping you reap the best possible results from your treatment.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

Your treatment will begin with an intake process that is designed to assess your unique needs and concerns. It will also help us to see how well we work together and determine if therapy is right for you. At the end of the session, I will share my initial impression of your situation and provide professional feedback on what our work together may involve. We will then discuss appropriate therapeutic goals and develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs. This process may last approximately 2 hours.

There are many techniques and approaches that may be used in therapy. The treatment strategies and tools used in your sessions will depend on your presenting issues and how far you wish to go in resolving them. A session typically lasts for 1 hour, and follows the treatment plan we developed together. I firmly believe a trusting, supportive therapeutic relationship is essential to helping you develop the positive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors you need for a healthier, happier life.
