My Approach to Helping
Do you feel that your days are simply a race to the finish line, focused more on getting through the day than enjoying it? Do the problems from your past (what occurred yesterday, last week or even decades ago) or your preoccupation with what may happen tomorrow, prevent you from living in this moment, NOW? Are you ready to start living the life that you desire and deserve to be living?
In my 20+ years of clinical practice, I have found that most people struggle with the decision to begin counseling. An experienced, knowledgeable therapist will address your fears and apprehension; counseling should be the "safe haven" where you can speak openly and honestly, without the concern of judgment or consequences.
People seek counseling to help find answers to what isn't working in their lives, which is why I I favor a solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral approach that assists clients with changing both their negative self-talk and their unhealthy behaviors. I strongly believe in tailoring treatment to each person's specific needs; counseling should provide clients with tools, strategies that they clearly understand and can implement, to overcome life's obstacles and achieve their goals. I want clients to end each session feeling more confident in themselves, and in their ability to create the life that they truly desire and deserve to live.
I welcome the opportunity to help you in your quest for a better life.
More Info About My Practice
I believe that people seek counseling to change what isn't working in their lives. They aren't just looking for a supportive listener, but want solutions to help guide those changes, which is why I have spent the past 20 + years gaining expertise in the practice of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT isn't' a trendy buzz word; it is an active, hands-on approach that seeks to empower clients by gaining skills that will enable them to challenge BOTH their negative, and often destructive, self-talk and behavior. In my practice, I use CBT to treat a wide variety of emotional and behavioral issues, such as depression, low self-esteemunhealthy body image, trauma survivors, family discord, and relationship improvement. However, I have spent the majority of my career gaining expertise in different CBT modalities, including Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy, ERP, in the treatment of mild to severe forms of anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, both in office and in-vivo, within the environments in which they occur. These forms of therapy are cited by experts in the field as the "treatment of choice" after years of clinical research specifically for treating these disorders, as well as a therapy for any clinical issue in general, CBT is also regarded as one of the most effective therapies because its goal is to empower clients. I welcome the opportunity to speak with prospective clients on the telephone to answer questions regarding my experience and how CBT methods can be used to help them conquer the obstacles standing in their way and start living in the NOW!
I was proud to have been a treating therapist on Season Two of the groundbreaking documentary, Obsessed, which aired in late June 2010 on A&E Network. I encourage you to visit my practice website or the A&E website for more details.
