My Approach to Helping
Thanks for your interest in learning how I might be able to help you. My general approach to helping clients centers around helping them identify and remove the obstacles to growth. This is generally the case regardless of the problem. In our culture, few of us escape the early part of our lives without some mild or significant form of emotional wound that profoundly affects how we relate to others in our lives. As life goes on we encounter increasing levels of dissatisfaction, experience relationship distress, and perhaps become addicted to chemicals like drugs or behaviors such as compulsive sexual behavior or overeating. Those of us who do not experience addictions may struggle chronically with emotions such as fear and anger. Current problems can be signs of unresolved emotional problems developed in the past or just indicators that we are overwhelmed with our current situation and we need to address it with a better plan. I strive to help clients confront the past while learning to live actively in the present and not being overwhelmed about the future.

How Psychotherapy Can Help
Sadly, we live in a world where it is difficult to establish genuine connections with people who have the time to listen or the understanding it takes to help people cope effectively with their problems. This state of isolation may be real in your life but by enlisting the help of a caring and competent psychotherapist you can establish a compassionate connection that will provide an outlet for your concerns. This relationship will not only help you gain leaps and bounds of professional insight but also may serve as a blueprint for establishing the authentic connections and relationships you desire for the future. In essence, I believe, therapy works by removing the obstacles to growth.
