My Approach to Helping

I am inspired by the healing potential that comes from the human connection. When we explore emotions in the presence of a compassionate and empathetic witness, profound insight and change occurs. I provide a nurturing environment in which you can feel safe to explore painful or confusing emotions. With my complete attention you will feel heard and respected. Together we will work towards a better understanding of yourself and expression of your most authentic and vibrant self.

My therapeutic approach is heart- centered, nonjudgmental, and strength-based. We will work to not only process the difficult issues but also to tap into your strengths and into what brings you joy. I use empathy, compassion and insight to meet you where you are and to respond in a way that best fits your needs in the moment. I tailor the therapeutic process to you by using techniques from client-centered, cognitive behavioral, transpersonal, mindfulness, and relational theories.

I also use art therapy as a tool to unblock creativity, make meaning, and release emotions. The creative process can be in and of itself soothing and calming. The image or form that you create becomes a projection of your present experience, providing you with a way to communicate beyond words.

More Info About My Practice

I believe that good therapy happens when there is a positive and comfortable relationship between therapist and client. Therefore, I offer a free 20-minute session to give you a chance to sense how I work with clients.
My fee is $120 dollars for a 50-minute session, payable by cash, credit card or check due at time of service. I am an in-network provider for REGENCE, PREMERA, LIFEWISE, FIRST CHOICE, KAISER PERMANENTE, BEACON HEALTH (formally Value Options) and GROUP HEALTH (PPO plans only). I am out-of-network with other insurance carriers. I will be happy to provide you with a statement for services that you can submit for insurance purposes. I hold a few sliding fee scale slots.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

If you have experienced a loss due to death, divorce job loss, or any difficult life transition talking to a counselor can help you find strength and hope. I have training and experience with helping people effectively access their emotions, learn coping strategies, and find meaning as they move through the grief and mourning process. Our work together will empower you to come out on the other side of loss and grief with renewed hope and joy.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Like most healers that are called to this profession, I have had my share of painful losses and challenges. I gained empathy and wisdom from learning from my experiences. I also gained an appreciation for the strength and resiliency of the human spirit. Having someone with whom I could build a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship, gave me the guidance and support I needed for my personal growth and transformation. It showed me how helpful and empowering the process of counseling can be. Now, when I work with my clients, I have complete faith in my client's capacity to heal and thrive.
