How Psychotherapy Can Help
Our center sees children through adults. Below give a sneak peek into our different therapy modalities.
Children: Play & Art Therapy are wonderful ways for children as young as 3 to express their emotions and heal. Having an indirect approach helps children not become too emotionally flooded during the session. Children are able to tolerate their emotions better with a developmentally appropriate approach. ADHD, anxiety, anger, behavior disturbance, divorce, sexual abuse, and loss are examples of why some children come in for playart therapy.
Teens: Some teens enjoy Art Therapy and other just want to talk. We will meet your child wherever she is. Cutting, depression, social issues, trauma, sexual abuse, loss and divorce are examples of why some parents seek out help for their teen.
Individual Adults & Couples: Whether the issue is depression, anxiety loss, chronic illness, distance or discord in a relationship, therapy can help organize the pieces of the puzzle to help you find fulfillment and peace in your life and relationships again. Therapy is not just about reducing the negative, but is also about helping you access the life that you want.
My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
Our center works with many children and has extensive experience working with adults who have sensitive careers andor significant security clearances. We understand the importance of privacy and do our best to protect yours. One of the reasons we have chosen to be "out of network" for insurance companies is to limit how much your insurance company can learn about you and your private life. Being out of network provides one more layer of protection for you, your child or your spouse. It is important to know that if you choose to involve your insurance company, you will need to be diagnosed with a mental health diagnosis. Although this does not worry some, many feel leary about this and choose to not involve their insurance. I am personally trained as a Marriage and Family Therapist and would forgo diagnosing in most of my cases, but I do so because it is a requirement of every insurance company and every health plan. I struggle with diagnosing clients who are just wrestling with a life issue, transition, loss etc. Your privacy and the privacy of your child are important factors to weigh when you are deciding about therapy. Choosing a practice that can help you navigate it mindfully can pay off greatly in the end. -Gabrielle Anderson, DirectorTherapist
