My Approach to Helping
My name is Ed Bacon, and I have been providing pastoral and clinical counseling in Decatur since 2015. Before practicing full time, I served as executive director at Northeast Community Fund and God's Shelter of Love, both in Decatur, IL. I am the father of two grown children and recently celebrated thirty years of marriage. I hold two Master's degrees in counseling from Illinois State University and Lincoln Christian Seminary. I am an ordained minister and a U.S. Army veteran with training at the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School in counseling for combat stress casualties, PTSD, and traumatic event management.
I have several years of experience providing couples counseling, pre-marital counseling, family counseling, and individual counseling for adults, teens, and children struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar, and other common mental health disorders.
I utilize a number of therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, choice theory, and solution-focused brief therapy.
