My Approach to Helping

Life can be difficult. It is not a sign of weakness to feel overwhelmed. At times, our emotions can get the best of us. As a result, we can often feel sad, disconnected, or angry. The counseling process is designed to help individuals work through trying times in a safe, comfortable and confidential environment. I believe each individual already has the tools within to create and enjoy the life that fits them best. I seek to work with individuals in ways that help to illuminate these tools so that everybody is able to take advantage of their strengths and abilities in ways that benefit them most, and in ways that bring about necessary and positive life changes. Life is a journey and therapy can be an important complement to that journey.

My Role as a Therapist

My role as a therapist is not to tell someone what to do. My role as a therapist is to create an environment and a therapeutic relationship that allows individuals to figure out what is best for them and how to achieve personal goals. I will listen with empathy and help an individual understand their behaviors and the choices they are making. Together, we can discuss alternative strategies for new behaviors and choices that can bring about a sense of "enhanced wellbeing through greater self-awareness".

It is actually a sign of strength and emotional maturity to seek out assistance for our mental wellbeing. Our brains are active 24 hours a day. Our thoughts, our feelings and our emotions need attention and care. The healthier we are emotionally, the healthier we are overall and the better we are able to participate in our interpersonal relationships, our careers and to have a more joyful life experience.
