My Approach to Helping

I believe that psychotherapy with a therapist who is a good "fit" for you can make a profound difference in the way you experience yourself in the world, and can free you to live a life that feels authentic and an expression of your true self. I will help create an atmosphere of trust and understanding and a safe and reliable space within which we can explore those difficulties and feelings which have led you to seek help.

Some people come to therapy because of an immediate crisis or for help dealing with sudden loss or an overwhelming problem. Others are suffering from more chronic issues, such as pervasive and ongoing depression or anxiety, relationship troubles of all kinds, problems with eating, or the devastating consequences of trauma and abuse. Whatever your reasons for contacting me, I am prepared to listen carefully, without judgment.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist who is highly trained in providing psychotherapy and psychoanalysis to individual adults of all ages. Although my approach focuses on your present struggles, it recognizes the powerful impact of the past in shaping our present lives in ways of which we are often unaware. Together we will work to uncover and understand those forces that interfere with your emotional development. I am warm, compassionate and thoughtful in my approach to doing therapy, and very much value a collaborative working relationship, which is the core of the healing process.

More Info About My Practice

My experience includes practicing psychotherapy with a diverse group of people from many backgrounds, of different races, ethnicities, religious beliefs, gender identities, and sexual orientations, and I am comfortable working with difference. I have a strong commitment to issues of social justice and the basic human rights of every individual, which is reflected in my work.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Many people hesitate to turn to a therapist because they believe that acknowledging a need for help is a sign of weakness. The reality is that everyone needs help sometimes. Because we live in a society that values independence and self-sufficiency, many of us view an inability to change ourselves or our relationships as a personal failure. I believe this is far from the truth. It takes courage to seek help, and although the path to change may at times be painful and difficult, it can lead to an increasing sense of freedom to live the life you choose.
