My Approach to Helping
My psychology practice is focused on positive habit change, helping people build new habits and get rid of old ones that stand in the way of their goals and dreams. With support and guidance, you can learn the skills needed to lose weight, break dependence on alcohol and other substances, overcome procrastination, and develop better self-care, financial discipline, interpersonal skills, and health habits. While making changes can be challenging, maintaining positive change is even harder. I can help you maintain motivation and focus to make positive changes permanent. You really can keep the change!
In addition to individual and group therapy, I offer psychiatric evaluations, psychological testing, pre-surgical bariatric evaluations, and adult ADHD evaluations for clients whose medication prescribers require a psychological evaluation.
My approach to individual therapy starts with identifying 1 or 2 specific changes you want to make. Once you identify a goal, I’ll help you take steps to build new habits to help you reach it. You’ll leave each session with a manageable homework assignment and some psychological tips and tricks to help you complete it. Because of the focus on developing skills, most clients can expect to make significant progress in a few sessions and continue to make progress once therapy ends. I usually recommend people take a break after 4-6 visits, see how they do on their own, and return as needed for booster sessions. This process of active therapy with breaks for practice will help you reflect on the work you've done and identify your strengths and challenges so you can get the greatest value from your therapy sessions.
