My Approach to Helping

My approach is a results oriented, active, direct, and homework driven style. Addictions often originate from deeper underlying issues such as traumaPTSD, chronic pain, psychosis, anxiety, and depression. I want to help you accomplish *whatever* goalsvalues that are uniquely important to you. Are you not sure what your goals or values are? No worries, we can work together to find out what these are. I genuinely want to help you put the hard work of therapy into achieving real growth.

I graduated with a Master’s degree in Addiction Counseling in 2021 and I have 7 years of experience in behavioral health at various capacities (Crisis Counseling, Individual Therapy, Case Management, Homeless Shelter RA, ETC). I am a member of the neurodivergent community, including those identified as high-functioning autistic. I consider myself as somebody who is caring, authentic, and dedicated to be helpful. The population I have chosen to work with is adults and teenagers who struggle or who have previously struggled with compulsive use of drugsalcohol despite significant negative consequences to their relationshipscareerhobbies.

This is a supervised private practice. It is owned andor managed by a master’s level, non-independent licensee (myself) under Board-approved clinical supervision pursuant to A.A.C. R4-6-211. The Board-approved clinical supervisor of this practice is Jill Fabian. Her Credentials are LISAC and LCSW. Her contact info is available on my website.

Evidenced based treatments that I use:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: We can work together collaboratively in softly challenging distorted unhelpfulexaggeratedunrealistic harsh judgementsthoughtsbeliefs that appear during your distress. Just because we have a thought doesn't make it true. We can work together to accept uncomfortable emotionsphysical symptoms rather than act harsh towards them. Our emotions, although sometimes misguided, are trying to help us and we can take a more thankfulflexible attitude of allowing them to be there even though they are very unpleasant. Self compassion is powerful!

Treats chronic pain, psychosis, anxiety, depression, and addiction.

Cognitive Processing Therapy: The average CPT-treated participant fared better than 89% of those in inactive control conditions at posttreatment and 82% at follow-up. CPT is a well-researched, manualized therapy proven to significantly reduce symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is generally delivered over 12 sessions and helps clients learn how to challenge and modify unhelpful beliefs related to the trauma. Other than the first session, 7 sheets of homework are assigned between each session.

Treats PTSD

Motivational Interviewing: Part of us leans towards a new path, while another part likes things just as they are. This approach acknowledges that clients are the expert of their own lives and looks to roll with both sides without pushing any agenda onto the client. Thus, the client can look to see how actions may or may not match their unique values.

Treats addiction

Harm Reduction or Abstinence: Addiction is the compulsive use of drugsalcohol despite significant negative consequences. Some clients are in a place in their lives in which they are not open to full abstinence from drugsalcohol. If your goal is to either reduce or completely abstain from drug or alcohol use, I can help.
