My Approach to Helping

My frame is that there are usually adaptive, valid, normal reactions underlying much of our pain and struggle in life. However, we often get outside messages which imply that normality equals happiness, and we can respond with a sense of shame and self-criticism for many of our natural reactions. I work by creating a non-judging atmosphere to help people explore ways their experiences may be normal, feel more compassion for their range of experiences, develop resilience to unhelpful outside messages, and experiment with new behaviors in areas where they would like to see change. I help people find their "fuel" for living by exploring values and what gives each person's life a sense of meaning. I focus on trying to deeply understand your world above making suggestions for change, and when you seek change I am a strong collaborator.
