My Approach to Helping
My approach to counseling is that I serve as a helper who is neither beneath or below any of my client’s needs or questions. I journey alongside him or her, providing a sacred and safe place to ask the most raw questions, and declare the most vulnerable of states. My desire is to guide the client along the healing process, teaching her to ask things she hasn’t been able to formulate before, and to help the client make connections within herself that link and unite body, mind and spirit.
Ataraxis Counseling was launched specifically designed with mothers and families in mind. I specialize in supporting women and families through infertility, miscarriage, prenatal care, pregnancy and post postpartum depression & anxiety, along with foster care and adoption, marriage and family dynamics. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, strengthened with a trauma informed approach based on Somatic Experiencing, to bring awareness to thoughts and how they influence feelings and behaviors.
More Info About My Practice
At Ataraxis Counseling we have realized how under-supported and overlooked many women are in the sacred and tender areas of their motherhood. In such a delicate and beautiful role, motherhood unveils so many feelings, both wonderful and grievous alike. Infertility and the desire to conceive life, anticipating childbirth and facing the growing anxieties of preparing for such a vulnerable moment, walking the uniquely toilsome journey through foster care and adoption, the tragic loss of children through miscarriage, childbirth, reunification, foster care removals, kinship care and disrupted adoptions, and the common experience of post-partum depression and anxiety, where bonding or attaching becomes unexpectedly painful: all impact mothers around our county in specific and vulnerable ways. I feel as a mother impacted by these issues, that in the healthcare sector of counseling and mental health, there can be lacking attention to these details so many of us endure in motherhood.
