My Approach to Helping

I am Angeles Ramos, a bilingual licensed marriage and family therapist experienced in working with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples.

Do you feel frustrated or lost? Are you anxious, overwhelmed or depressed? Do you feel unhappy, unmotivated, or stressed? Are you worried and hurt seeing your child or teen experiencing emotional difficulties? You can help your child get the therapy support that can help make a difference in his or her life. Are you suffering from past trauma or loss? This is the time to reach out and begin your road to recovery and healing.

I see the client-therapist relationship as the single most important element of therapy's success. I offer a supportive and safe space where a strong connection can grow. I work to promote healing in your life. My approach is warm, but always direct and honest. I help you cultivate connections in your work, your relationships, and with yourself. As we work together, I will encourage curiosity instead of judgment, support you in finding and strengthening your inner voice, help you clearly identify and express thoughts and feelings, and foster your increased conscious awareness of your inner workings.

I am trained in different psychotherapy approaches, including solution focused brief therapy, EMDR, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), multidimensional family therapy (MDFT), trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TFCBT), motivational interviewing (MI) and accelerated resolution therapy (ART). I am also a trained mediator.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

"Imperfections are not inadequacies; they are reminders that we are all in this together." and "Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable but they are never weakness." Brene Brown.

Therapy is the work of the heart. Going to therapy does not mean you are weak or flawed. To the contrary: Going to therapy means that you are ready to make changes, explore choices, and seek the support and guidance you need to work through the hurt that keeps you from being happy. Bringing your child or teen to therapy is an act of love; it means that you are a strong loving parent willing to do what it takes to help your child heal and have a better life. Going to therapy is seeking health and happiness for you, your relationship, and your family. You are not alone. Let's begin today.

"Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen." Brene Brown.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

One of the things that keep people away from therapy is a common misconception that therapy will go on for years. While in some cases that can be necessary and helpful, it's not common for people to spend that long in therapy. Some of my clients see me for only a couple sessions, and then don't need support for a long time. Therapy is available to you when you need it.

When you start therapy, you'll usually meet with me weekly. Once you feel that things are changing for the better, therapy often goes down to biweekly or monthly appointments - just to 'check in' and make sure the progress continues going in the right direction. After you achieve your goals, we can end therapy sessions.

As life goes on- in the future- if you need therapy again, you can always choose therapy as a refuge and a space for you to heal and grow.
