My Approach to Helping
Emily Carvajal is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who specializes in providing strength-based support to children, teens, and adults in both mental health and child and family service settings. Emily has over 10 years of experience in the mental health field, working with clients impacted by chronic illness, disability, anxiety, depression, family and relationship challenges, complex social stressors, and trauma. Emily completed her bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Development at San Diego State University, and her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She enjoys working with individuals and families from all cultural and racial backgrounds, as well as the LGBTQ+ community, and she firmly believes in the dignity and worth of all individuals. Emily strives to create a safe space where you can feel comfortable to explore past experiences that may be impacting your mental wellness. She holds a strong belief in the positive impact of a trusting therapeutic alliance. She utilizes cognitive behavioral techniques to support you to identify and reframe unhelpful patterns of thinking that can impact your mood and behavior. Emily teaches mindfulness, grounding, and other trauma-informed strategies to promote healthy methods of coping with distress. She is passionate about working collaboratively with you to achieve your mental wellness goals.
