My Approach to Helping
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Within the safety and confidentiality of the therapeutic relationship, I will partner with you to bring clarity and perspective to your concerns and desires for your life. I respect that your strengths, intuition, and creativity are key in your movement toward well-being. I recognize, too, that you have a unique yet timeless path or story. I have found that uncomfortable feelings or problematic behaviors often result from being out of sync with that path, with oneself, so to speak. My approach is pragmatic though eclectic, paying close attention to the wisdom of the body, the workings of the mind, and callings of the soul. In addition to talking we may use art, writing, sandtray, or exploration of your dreams to further self-knowledge. No doubt my sensibility is informed by my experience as a visual artist, parent, and spouse as well as the study of Jungian psychology, exposure to indigenous cultures in New Mexico, and early lessons learned in the rural Rio Grande Valley of Texas . . . and a tragicomic movie or two. Because I believe that quality of life is in the quality of our connection to others, our environment, and to ourselves, I maintain a compassionate eye toward resolving hurtful or frightening experiences which may have disrupted this balance. I appreciate the courage it takes to embrace life-affirming change, and I welcome the opportunity to work with you.
