Listening fully to what brings you is a first step. Understanding what you see as resolution/success in our time together is essential.

You are the author. My job is to help empower you to create the life, relationships, and family that work for YOU . There's not a "one size fits all" formula. Once you and I are clear about what you want, we can look at what is in the way of getting there.

I am a skillful "other" on your journey. I am practical, proactive and committed to you getting what you came for. It may be hard work both in and out of session. Together we will find your path and what works best for you. This doesn't take forever.

Once you feel like "flying solo", you can feel free to return as needed for a "tune up ".
I have been doing individual, couples, and family work for over 30 years. I feel grateful to be able to use my skills and experience to support you.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

My undergraduate degree is in Child Development/Family Life. I work with all ages.

Some desire to have a better relationship with themselves (key for enjoying all healthy relationships) , others feel stuck in seeking a healthy partner, are in a relationship that feels stuck, and/or one of the members is struggling with depression, anxiety,.

I work with families adjusting to parenting in this culture with high demands to "do it all."

When relationships do end, despite our best efforts. understanding and processing can prevent passing generational wounds to children. Two healthy parents loving and respecting each other is first choice. However, I can help you be the one healthy parent sufficient to ensure emotionally healthy children .

Co parenting families and remarriage/blended families start with loss. These challenging situations offer opportunities for learning, healing, and creative problem solving.

Parenting adolescents 12-25 in the age of technology, online identity, a changing economy...Whew! I coach parents during these transitional "launching""years. I have taught a DBT teen/parent class for over 7 years. It is fun and fulfilling.

I also work with individuals and couples in their later years, when one or the other is "failing".
Looking at the issues from a holistic, non-blaming, compassionate perspective can help us appreciate how we have been blessed, grieve the loss/ change, and move to what is next with wisdom and compassion.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Confidence, compassion, curiosity, humor, skills, learning to take the long view, being present to the joy your life offers, solving problems as effectively as possible, while not losing sight of the good.....That's how therapy can help!

Therapy can help make hard times less hard, the good times be absorbed , and the confidence/courage to do what we need to do.

I teach mindfulness skills. Research tells us that we can use mindfulness to change our brains. With support, practice and coaching, we can learn to mindfully and effectively navigate the difficult times and to be fully present for the wonder filled moments.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Our culture leans towards independence as a value. Human beings are meant to be connected and interdependent. The most fulfilling life is one where we know how to balance giving/helping and asking/receiving.

Often counseling in my office is the practicality of balancing other and self.
