We offer a rather unique approach to therapy. We strive to be 100% client centered, and use multiple treatment styles; ranging from Bowenian Family System's approach, motivational interviewing techniques, and Rogerian counseling. This is the belief that, the most important aspect of therapy is the rapport between the client and the counselor, not any particular skills that the therapist has. We believe that the consumer is the expert, and that the counselor's role is more that of a coach or encourager, asking clarifying questions, but to get the person to feel comfortable as they look at their own challenges. We see progress in a period of weeks, not months, and clients generally report that they see results rather quickly.
We use solution focused therapy for people with a history of drug/alcohol involvement, and add elements of DBT, (dialectical behavioral therapy) when possible.
We also do such things as marriage counseling, and use techniques to help couples improve communication style, and to improve happiness in their relationships. Therapists are trained in at least four distinct counseling techniques, and can work with the modality that the client feels will best help him or her achieve their goals.

More Info About My Practice
We are one of the few counselors to offer true "DBT" (dialectical behavioral therapy), which is highly effective for dealing with people with emotional challenges; such as persons with Borderline Personality Disorder, Anger issues, and Anxiety or Mood disorders.
We are also pioneering a program for anti-bullying, and teaches simple yet effective ways to help children who are experiencing bullying to break this cycle. It is a 10 week program which the children report that they see it as a pivotal point in their life.
My Role as a Therapist
Traditional therapist are taught that they are in charge of the session, and they tend to give advice and tell the client what to do. Here at Empower Life Coaching, we follow the Rogerian approach, which sees the therapist as more of a coach, giving unconditional regard and encouragement to the client. They are in charge of the session, and progress is made on your terms and you talk about what is important to you. If you are reading this and wondering if you can actually improve your life, I would say that you get into therapy what you put into it. If you are willing to do the work and be honest with yourself, you can expect to get better and have a reasonably happy life. The hardest part is often the first session.
