Clinical Social Work, Psychotherapy, Counseling
I'm a licensed professional.
LISW-CP - 4936
I work with many people with, grief, medical issues, anxiety, phobias, depression, gender issues, and relationship difficulties. In addition, I enjoy helping people with weight loss. All of these issues respond well to the Energy Therapy methods that I love to use, because these methods are all based on a person's natural psychological health. People do not always realize that they have this innate health, but it is always there. Weight loss is a particularly interesting issue, because it is not about lack of self-control, as most people think. Most people are unaware of the actual reasons they overeat and think they are just lazy or somehow not good enough. When the true reasons are discovered and people are able to free themselves from them, weight loss is no longer difficult.
My role as a therapist is to facilitate a person's finding their own inner health. I do not heal anyone; clients heal themselves. People often do not know they even have an inner core of health and think there is simply something wrong with them. I simply help, guide, and support people as they release the blocks to their own true self.
My principal guiding ethical principle is to consider the client's best interest at all times. This includes maintaining healthy boundaries and refraining from any kind of improper relationship or unethical behavior. It also includes having complete respect for the client as a fellow human being, regardless of the kind of issue he or she is facing.
In choosing a therapist, of course a client should seek someone who is well-trained, qualified, and highly ethical. For some people it will be also important to know what the therapist's theoretical orientation is. However, it may be more essential that the therapist be capable in working with the client's particular issues. It is also quite helpful when a person feel comfortable in the physical setting, whether that be in an office, by phone, or by Skype. In order to decide these things, it is completely acceptable for a perspective client can call the therapist and ask as many questions as needed to get a sense of whether or not there could be a good "fit."
In many areas of the country, there is a strong stigma about seeing a therapist. The thought is that if someone needs therapy, it means they are either "crazy" or flawed in some way. This means that the majority of people who need therapy or counseling the most do not receive it. However, it is an act of courage and a sign of strength to seek help from a professional. Most therapists themselves have gone through therapy in the past and do not hesitate to seek it in the present whenever there is a crisis in their lives where they need support.
