My Approach to Helping
My professional approach to counseling begins by developing a non-judgmental, supportive, and respectful therapeutic relationship. Creating a safe environment is critical to explore past issues, current relationships or future goals. I believe that it is crucial to be genuine and honest in therapy while providing a safe environment to process, understand and move through current issues to attain personal progress. Within the framework of a relationship built on respect and collaboration, I often use cognitive-behavioral tenets in therapy to address thoughts and actions. Additionally, I use emotion-focused and mindfulness approaches to help clients develop a deeper connection with themselves and those around them. Ultimately, I believe that counseling can help clients reconnect with the true meaning in their lives. Through our collaborative efforts, I hope that my clients will feel a renewed sense of hope and passion in their lives as they move towards the future.
I have worked in the mental health field for 5 years. My career began working with teenagers and their families in an inpatient setting. In that environment, I worked with a range of diagnoses and issues from PTSD, Depression, ADHD, and Bipolar to family issues, self-esteem issues, high-risk behaviors including self-harm, and eating disorders. In my private practice I enjoy working with adolescents and adults who are experiencing life transitions, family issues, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, or other emotional disturbances related to trauma, depression or anxiety. I work to help clients understand their past but, more importantly, I strive to empower clients to make and sustain changes for a healthier and happier future.
