My Approach to Helping
My clients appreciate the safe and nonjudgemental nature of therapy that we develop together. In the beginning, I take a full history. A specific treatment plan helps us stay focused and make the therapy be as useful as it can be. I provide many ideas and skills for individuals to try in their efforts to solve their problems. I believe each of us has the inner expertise for our own healing but sometimes need a counselor to navigate the way. I use Mindfulness Meditation and various relaxation techniques. Spiritual values are respected and can be a strong foundation for recovering from emotional turmoil. One of my primary values is the family. Helping people heal their family of origin relationships can bring relief and provide a method for dealing with current relationships. Overall, I help people overcome fears from the past so they can live life to the fullest. I teach skills for healthy living. Our therapy relationship is important and essential for healing and growth.
More Info About My Practice
I have also been trained in EMDR and have worked with adults who have a history of trauma. I have also been trained in working with couples when one or both of the partners has a history of trauma. The love relationship contains the potential of healing from past traumas.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
For relationship counseling, I always suggest that the couple devote at least 3 months to working on the relationship. During this time, I further suggest that neither of the partners are in a significant relationship outside the relationship that they are coming to therapy for. I also suggest that neither party be consulting with a divorce attorney. I ask that they plan on spending time working on their relationship, be willing to take risks, be honest in the therapy, and give their partner the benefit of the doubt.
