My Approach to Helping

Sexual addiction is a disease of the mind that affects every area of a person's life. It is an addiction that is better known as a intimacy disorder. The addiction itself is a two fold process; it allows the inflicted person to temporarily escape pain while seemingly getting deeper underlying needs met. When a person uses sex in a compulsive manner, he or she is trying to access and resolve the unresolved issues in his or her life. The problem then is the result of not knowing how to get our needs met in healthy, productive and satisfying ways. I work with people in a safe, compassionate, and confidential manner. The work is Task-Oriented meaning that specific tasks are explored and completed enabling recovery to begin. Once recovery from the addiction is present we then begin to explore the drama and trauma that set the person up for either sex addiction or attraction to those afflicted with sexual addiction. I trained with Dr. Patrick Carnes, the leader in sexual addiction treatment and research. He is also the author of Out of the Shadows, the pinnacle book on sex addiction and recovery.
