My Approach to Helping

Offering 26 Years of Experience and an Affordable Sliding Fee Scale. My approach to counseling and therapy is from a humanistic model, and I use best practice therapies (shown to work through research evidence) suited to the person's specific issues and goals -- often, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). I'm solution focused, but always encourage going through emotions first, rather than around them. Emotions are valid and must be experienced, but we needn't become stuck in them; After all, emotions arise from our thoughts and those can be changed, as needed and with focus. People who see me for counseling or therapy go away with a stronger sense of their real needs, confidence and skills for meeting their future needs. This is because counseling or therapy with me is not passive. No counselor or therapist has any magic. I know that you can meet your goals if you participate in the process. It takes courage and caring for oneself to actively commit to therapy.
