My Approach to Helping
My goal is to work with you towards a quick relief and ultimate solutions to your problems. I do this by being an active listener to understand you and provide the tools that can give you a new direction in your life. I provide a supportive, positive and honest treatment enviornment that is safe. I will outline your options and choices putting you in charge of your therapy. I believe everyone can be helped when one understands the underlying issue reflected in various responses to life. I believe that sometimes what holds us back are deeply buried childhood trauma, shame, guilt, and life long negative messages. While I am a Psychoanalyst trained in a variety of approaches, not all clients need to delve into their past. Many times, the current situation can be handled quickly and it is always up to the client and their desires. You may have seen other counselors and therapist and are still struggling. Often, these underlying issues are the problem. However, we begin with what you need in the present and access further issues if needed. At least 90% of our mental life is unconscious, therefore we can live in a very narrow and limited way and still be very functional in life. I am very involved in the recent developments of Neurobiology and the ways in which our brains are wired. This information is providing new ways to become more conscious of our thoughts and our ability to create neuro pathways to change our feelings and situations. These developments are providing the connection between the mind and body. Many times physical ailments are the result of these connections. In otherwords, negative stresses, emotional pain or physical issues that are wired together in our brain can be rewired for a different outcome.
