My Approach to Helping
My approach comes from a deep belief that each of us desires to grow from experiences, especially suffering. While honoring each person's unique experiences, I encourage my client's to approach therapy with a vested interest in gaining a deeper understanding of themselves and how they relate to the world around them. I both encourage and challenge my clients to embrace and honor life as a valued EXPERIENCE, not merely as something to SURVIVE or even CHANGE. By teaching mindfulness, my clients begin to experience a new sense of hope as well as a new appreciation of themselves. The practice of mindfulness allows us to give the influences of the past, present and future equal importance so that we can learn to manage difficult emotions and experiences with compassion and with a non-critical perspective. I encourage my client's to use their inner resources, such as intuition, to develop new ways of dealing with life's challenges. This develops a new awareness of themselves and a trust in their own natural ability to cope and even grow. I specialize with adults who are interested in developing a deeper sense of meaning, purpose and spirituality. Those wanting to learn to adapt to various roles and transitions in life, and balancing one's independence with dependence in an often demanding, emotionally confusing world are also attracted to this form of therapy.
