My Approach to Helping
I am a licensed psychologist and board certified biofeedback practitioner specializing in helping individuals change, grow, and heal in the context of their often complex lives. My approach is that of a consultant, an educator, a coach, or a guide: collaborative, compassionate, direct and focused on what matters most to you.
In my work with people with medical challenges, chronic pain, and difficult or painful life circumstances I use an integrative approach that addresses both mind and body and focuses on wellness, health, and quality of life. I keep up with what is current in evidence-based research while remaining clinically flexible and committed to utilizing approaches that are a good fit for you and your life.
Life is filled with obstacles and difficulties--the normal course of life can be stressful. A healthy, vibrant, meaningful life requires attention and maintenance. You do not need to be sick or impaired to seek help improving your life. This work can help your life in the same way that tending your garden helps it to grow healthy, strong and fruitful. Some people see me for 4-12 sessions to address a specific problem while others come at various times throughout their lives to help them cope with challenges, to assist as they navigate a difficult time of life, or to assist them in creating a more joyous, meaningful life. Whether you want to work on one specific problem or make extensive life changes support, education and guidance can help.
More Info About My Practice
I am Board Certified in Biofeedback which has been shown to be useful for a number of difficulties for which people may seek help. Biofeedback is a safe, effective, noninvasive procedure. It is a process that enables an individual to learn how to change physiological activity for the purposes of improving health and performance. Precise instruments measure physiological activity such as heart function, breathing, muscle activity, and skin temperature. These instruments rapidly and accurately "feed back" information to the user. The presentation of this information — often in conjunction with changes in thinking, emotions, and behavior — supports desired physiological changes. Over time, these changes can endure without continued use of an instrument.
Biofeedback has been demonstrated to be helpful with many mind-body difficulties including, but not limited to: anxiety, breathing problems, chronic pain, headaches, hypertension, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, non-cardiac chest pain, panic disorders, Raynaud’s Syndrome, stress and stress-related illnesses.
