My Approach to Helping

Combined, our therapists have over 50 years of experience in a variety of mental health work settings. We have the ability to work with clients at the level they come in at and use a collaborative approach all the while holding the client's respect and confidentiality at the absolute highest level. Our therapists provide feedback and work with clients to establish goals and meet them. We check to ensure clients are getting what they came for and often find the answer is "yes and more!". We believe that mental health is paramount and one cannot have optimal physical health when their mental health is suffering. In fact, many of our clients find their physical complaints diminish as we work through the core of what is bothering them and provide them with the tools to meet life's challenges head on. Counseling takes hard work, but you can feel assured that your therapist will be with you every step of the way. Call for a free 15 minute telephone consultation to get an idea of our approach and to determine which of our counselors would be the best fit for you as this is the number one factor in determining if therapy will be successful.

More Info About My Practice

We believe in the worth and dignity of all people. Our therapists will never judge, but rather support you in your journey through therapy. It can be very difficult work - many of us have done our own share and believe that makes us much more capable of understanding our clients and empathizing with their fear and apprehension regarding therapy. Each of our therapists has their unique approach and is highly skilled in their areas of expertise. No one therapist can be right for everyone. Nor can any one therapist treat "everything". As a group, we have the skills set to treat a wide population and virtually all mental health issues. Our practice has been built primarily through referrals from previous clients which tells us we are giving people what they come in for. We all constantly work to keep abreast of the newest findings in our personal specialties. Each and every one of us loves what we do and it is this passion for our craft that makes us successful and effective with clients. We often hear "I've tried therapy before and you are so different and helpful - I can't believe it!" This tells us that our approach works and is different from what you will find in other practices. The bottom line is you must feel you "click" with your therapist, otherwise all of their credentials are meaningless.

Groups I Work With

  • Dana Steiner Ltd. is first and foremost a highly confidential group private practice that employs therapists who pride themselves in treating all clients with the utmost respect and dignity everyone deserves. You are not seen as a "patient", rather a client who is in need of tools to overcome a personally painful situation. This practice grew out of my solo practice. As my specialties are limited (as they should be), I hand-picked therapists that clearly demonstrate the values and ethics I hold so high and could work with clients that I could not. Each therapist has their own "niche" and nobody tries to "do it all" as that is impossible. We treat ages 3 and up and work with individuals, couples, families and groups. Treatments offered include clay therapy (great for younger children), art therapy, sand therapy, dream rehearsal therapy, martial/pre-marital/post-marital therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy to name a few. There are no cookie cutter approaches. Each client receives optimal services to achieve their goals. Some of the issues we treat are depression, anxiety, relationship issues, life transitions, adoption/adoptee issues, women's issues, men's issues, anger management, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress syndrome, veterans (and their families if desired), GLBT issues, body image, weight loss, eating disorders, ADD/ADHD, Asperger's syndrome, bipolar disorder, blended families, children dealing with divorce, truancy, parenting, adolescents with legal problems, vocational counseling and behavioral/school problems just to name a few!.We accept insurance and are happy to check your benefits prior to your appointment. As a courtesy, we file all insurance claims at no extra charge and accept cash and check for payment. Should you wish, we will provide invoices for any medical/health savings account you may wish to utilize for reimbursement. As mental health professionals, we inform all clients that they must carefully consider whether or not to utilize their insurance. When using insurance, we are required to provide your insurance company with a mental illness code and then they determine what level of benefits you will receive. This "code" remains on your insurance record indefinitely. We have had personal experiences where clients were denied benefits because they had previously seen a therapist or they were charged higher premiums when buying personal health coverage, because they had previously sought mental health treatment. Yes, this is outrageous however, it is unethical for us to take your insurance without providing you with this information. Our fees for individual and marital* are $160 for the initial one hour appointment, $120 for 50 minute follow-up sessions and $150 for one-hour sessions (*can be individual but are required for marital and family sessions.) Depending on your situation we may be able to adjust our fees. We do not want people not receiving the help they need simply due to cost. However, we have the highest quality professionals and you will get what you pay for.Therapy is not a luxury, it is a necessity to your overall well-being. It is easy to say, "Oh, that's too much money and I don't really need it." Mind and body are one. When you do not address your mental health, your physical health suffers. Studies are conclusive in the mind-body connection. When you consider the physical ramifications of chronic stress and not addressing your mental health, our fees are quite a bargain! We have had many people referred by their physicians after spending thousands of dollars on needless tests, medications, etc. that offered no relief. Once they came in, began to see the root of their problem and learned some techniques to manage them, their symptoms subsided. More than once a client has said how they wished they had tried therapy first! Our fee for group therapy is generally $250. Most run for 6 weeks, last 1.5 hours each week, and are limited to 8 participants (depending on the group). Therefore for a little over $40 per week you can gain support, education and "try out" therapy. We have a wide variety of topics and you may check our website for upcoming ones that may be of interest..All of our therapists offer a free 10 minute phone consultation so you can get a "feel" for the person prior to a meeting. The number one indicator of successful counseling is the "fit" with the therapist. You (or your child, spouse, etc.) must feel that the person is someone with whom you can feel comfortable, share honestly and feel safe. Not every therapist is for every person. But this "match" is crucial to get anything from a session.I invite you to call our main number (847) 668-6290. As the owner of the practice, I answer all in-coming calls to determine who I believe will be your best fit. Personally, I do not want a receptionist simply booking you in with someone based on time. If I end up being wrong with the referral, please let me know as several of our therapists "overlap" in their skill set.Yes, we do things a bit differently however, all of our clients find that this difference is the reason their experience with our practice is so positive.
