My Approach to Helping
I work from a collaborative and strengths-based approach to help individuals reduce their suffering and reconnect or deepen their connection with their values. I treat a wide variety of problems including addictions, anxiety/trauma, depression, psychosis, and other difficulties. I use evidence-based treatments and draw heavily from cognitive-behavioral treatments, particularly newer cognitive-behavioral therapies such as Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches. While I am committed to using evidence-based therapies, I believe in tailoring treatment to best meet the needs and strengths of the individual. My approach heavily emphasizes the development of a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic relationship to facilitate client growth in multiple life domains, particularly in interpersonal relationships. In my practice of therapy, I am guided by my compassion for my clients' struggles, my belief in clients' resiliency, and my commitment to help clients identify and use their strengths to develop meaningful and value-guided lives. Depending on the goals and the needs of the client, I can provide structured, brief (8 -12 sessions) or long-term therapies.
