My Approach to Helping

I am dedicated to providing services that offer adults, children and adolescents the opportunity to reach their greatest potential as human beings. Research shows that early relationships play a significant role in shaping social and emotional development, as well as how we experience ourselves and the world. Sometimes these learned ways of relating are maladaptive and can get in the way of establishing healthy interpersonal relationships with those around us. I work with my clients on making meaning of experience and creating new dynamics where old ones are no longer working. One of the cornerstones of my work is founded on the therapeutic relationship, as it is through this interaction that healing takes place. We will work together on the development of personal insight and self-reflection as we come to understand the underlying dynamics that inform who you are, and how you experience the world. In my work I have found that a deepened understanding of the self can lead to feelings of authenticity, connectedness and joy.

More Info About My Practice

Becoming a parent is one of lifes greatest joysand also one of lifes greatest challenges. If you are feeling overwhelmed, uncertain and depleted by the challenges of parenthood you are not alone. Being in any kind of relationship can ignite feelings that are uncomfortable and unfamiliar, but the relationships we form with our children are particularly stimulating. You may find that you are responding and behaving in ways that are uncharacteristic without any ability to stop yourself. This can be frightening and disconcerting because you may feel like you are not the parent you had hoped you would be. Feeling discouraged and helpless can lead to defensiveness making it hard to respond in a way that is helpful for your child. As a result, many parents find themselves in a constant power struggle with their toddlers, children and adolescents. Most of us want to leave our past behind, but being a parent forces us to confront the ghosts of our bygone years. Most of what you know about being a parent comes from your own early experiences of being a child, and more often then not there is not much in the way of positive tools. Being a good parent and establishing healthy, happy relationships with your children requires knowledge and skill. I can help you understand what is causing conflict in your family and how to find the meaning behind the behavior. Together we will gather up your past and put it to good use in your current relationships so you can find the joy and happiness in parenthood that can so easily be lost.
