Trauma Relief Unlimited (TRU)

Developed by Robert Cicione, Trauma Relief Unlimited (TRU) is a very creative, clinical and effective way to use the mind’s own wisdom center to remove the negative effects of multiple episodes of traumatic events. A survivor of abuse, neglect or other trauma is guided through a series of hand movements by a TRU therapist. Although these may seem random at first glance, these specific movements are designed to stimulate the right hemisphere of the brain of the survivor. It is in this region that traumatic imprinting can be altered or even eliminated.

Method of TRU: Drawing

TRU therapy involves the use of a drawing pad and non-toxic markers and does not rely on any pharmacological protocol for its efficacy. This form of therapy rarely involves talk therapy, so the survivor is not forced to verbally or visually relive the traumatic event and experience any accompanying negative physical effects. Survivors usually appear calm and relaxed and rarely express negative implications from treatment, except an occasional report of fatigue or confusion several hours after the therapy has concluded.

Issues Treated by TRU

Treatment through TRU can serve to address and eliminate multiple episodes of trauma. The results show that people who have suffered abuse for years and even decades can see relief from the symptoms of their trauma in only a handful of treatments. Clients who undergo this form of treatment report that there is rarely a recurrence of the symptoms once they have been treated. The biggest potential impact this form of therapy has is its ability to break the abuse cycle. The treatment involves eliminating the feelings associated with the trauma, and therefore, the likelihood that the pattern will be repeated is greatly diminished. In addition, not only will this type of therapy prevent the creation of future victims, it liberates the client from a prison of reliving the painful memories associated with the trauma throughout their lifetime.
