Everett is the government seat of Snohomish County, Washington. The city is located on Port Gardner Bay and covers a land area of 33 square miles. Everett has a population of 110,100 people. 

Everett is home to 7,600 veterans. Ninety percent of residents are American citizens (compared to 93% of people nationwide). Around 22% of adults age 25 and older have a bachelor’s degree.

The population is 65% white, 15% Hispanic, 9% Asian, and 4% black. Over 18% of people in the city were born in a foreign country, and 25% speak a language other than English at home. There are 10,000 Spanish speakers, 1,800 Tagalog speakers, and 1,700 Russian speakers in Everett.

The median household income in Everett is $50,900. The median value of homes in the area is $242,200. The homeownership rate is 44%. Roughly 18% of Everett residents live below the poverty line.

Mental Health in Everett

Snohomish County has been hit especially hard by the opioid crisis. In 2011, one out of every five opioid-related deaths in Washington occurred in this county. In 2017, over two million discarded needles were collected by county health officials. 

Access to mental health care can be a challenge in Snohomish County. Until mid-2017, there were only 16 state-funded detox beds in the entire county. The number of beds has increased since the opening of a new facility, but many residents are still forced to seek addiction treatment outside of the region. Around 14% of Everett residents do not have health insurance.
