My Approach to Helping
I am a Christian Counselor and love to work with couples, individuals, and families. I have had much success helping couples to overcome communication issues, problems in understanding why marriage isn't working, and infidelity. If you are an individual hoping to find help with depression or anxiety, we will work together to make a difference in your life! I focus on your worldview and approach counseling from your perspective so that although I am a Christian, your understanding of the world is where we start.
I generally work with Solution-Focused Therapy and CBT methods. Solution-Focused therapy brings the client into the therapy as an expert, because no one knows your life like you do. We work together collaboratively to find solutions to your situation whatever that may be. CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a proven, tried and true way of helping you to change the way you think in order to change the way you feel. It is exciting to see a person move from anxiety and fear to confidence and contentment! I enjoy the work and get great satisfaction from seeing people have more pleasure in life and more joy in daily living. Let's work together to make your life better!
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
It is important to choose a therapist that you like, identify with, and feel a connection to because those qualities are what makes therapy work. If you trust and believe in your therapist, and feel that connection with them, you can make a huge difference in your life!
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
I have survived an abusive relationship and gone on to have a loving relationship with a beautiful woman. She and I are very happy in our marriage, having been together for 26 years. She was in an accident in 2002, and has survived a traumatic brain injury. These and many other trials in life have taught me to understand the reality of the fragility of this life and the temporal nature of relationships. I have learned that God has answers and direction for our lives that is not available anywhere else.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
I regret that I did not have therapy when I was younger. It may have drastically changed the course of my life. Instead I wandered through life and eventually found my beautiful wife, whose encouragement and help made all the difference in who I have become. She is an inspiration to me!
The thing is... if we all got counseling from time to time, we would benefit from another person's perspective and might avoid traveling through life with no direction. I look back on my own life and wish I had spoken to someone at times along the way.
