My Approach to Helping
I am a licensed clinical therapist whose mission is to help you thrive and succeed. My expertise lies in using client-focused interventions with an eclectic treatment approach to help people achieve their goals of stress reduction, improved coping skills, communication, and self-esteem. You will find my therapeutic style warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental.
I believe in creating a space of acceptance and unconditional positive regard in order to foster self-acceptance and healing. I consider my approach eclectic; I have extensive knowledge and experience in many different modalities, including but not limited to cognitive behavioral, TF-CBT, solution-focused, relationship, marriage and family, psychodynamic, parent-child interaction, humanistic, and mindfulness-based therapies. I strongly believe in meeting the client where they are and establishing a strong therapeutic relationship to achieve the client's goals. I utilize a multicultural approach with the emphasis on the whole person to achieve treatment goals. I believe in the use of a multifaceted approach in intervention planning, including journaling, homework, mindfulness therapy, and role-playing. Our sessions will be a collaborative effort of creating, establishing, and carrying out goals for long-term success.
I am a native New Yorker, born and raised in the projects on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. I strongly believe that my upbringing and life experiences have shaped me in understanding how the environment can have both a positive and negative effect on the mental health of the individual and their families. Being an Afro-Latina myself, I know that having a culturally-sensitive therapist is very important to ensure that clients feel heard and supported in sessions.
