My Approach to Helping
I am a licensed clinical social worker with nearly 30 years’ experience in the health and mental health fields. I earned a BA in Economics from Whitman College then a Master of Social Work from University of Washington. She spent 25 years in emergency medicine and acute healthcare, as well as doing program development in the areas of domestic violence and bariatric surgery support. In addition, I worked in teen mental health and in-patient behavioral health. In 2017, I followed a career long aspiration and opened a private practice. After deciding to relocate my family from Seattle to Phoenix in 2021 I closed my practice. In 2022 after getting my family settled, I reopened a practice and am excited to continue my passion for working with clients to help create change in their lives.
Making the decision to seek helpenter counseling can be a difficult decision, often with feelings of fear, overwhelm and discouragement. My approach is to first understand what drove the client, andor family, to reach out for help, and then to provide a comfortable space to discuss what they’d like to be different. Working together to identify treatment goals, and an approach, the client gains confidence in the process and hopefulness in a positive outcome.
I work with kids, adolescents, and adults, individually and in relationships. I have experience working with depression and other mood disorders, suicidality, anxiety, personality disorders, thought disorders and neurodiverse disorders. Tana’s background in emergency services allows her to work comfortably in intense situations, work efficiently to stabilize, and find avenues to comforting clientsfamilies in crisis. She strives to create balance in her practice rather than focusing heavily on any single population
