My Approach to Helping
I have learned that happiness and serenity are predicated on self acceptance, conscious presence, balance, and love, and that, given the right environment and relationships, most people are capable of effective problem solving and meaningful growth. Using an eclectic approach, and a stance of compassionate and validating presence, I help clients understand their current problems in the context of past and present key relationships, developing awareness of their emotional triggers, and their adaptive and maladaptive stances and coping strategies. I encourage clients to explore healthier narratives and behaviors, allowing for more effective "voice" and sense of agency. I also, when I feel it's appropriate, use humor as a normalizing and neutralizing tool. I strongly believe that therapy, although predicated on emotional pain, can be an amazing, wild journey of discovery and growth.
