My Approach to Helping
At Shift, we practice a particular brand of therapy. A lot of research and trial went into creating it and we know it does great things for our clients. What this means is that you get an effective, structured treatment plan from the get-go. But everyone's different, so our psychologists dig deep into their education and experience-driven knowledge to tailor our protocol to you. Think of it like buying a really great suit or dress (already a good thing, right?) and then having a tailor custom-alter it for you.

At Shift, we don't focus on the diagnoses. In fact, often we look at them as symptom clusters that are outgrowths of negative self-concepts or trauma and disturbance. It doesn't mean we ignore them, we just view them a little differently. What this means is your treatment will go beyond a single label, or not include one at all. We also focus more on treating the concern than naming it, unless it's going to have a major therapeutic benefit.
How Psychotherapy Can Help
Simply put, this means there are concrete goals, an explanation, a plan based on logic and reasoning and tracking of goal completion. We think it is important to keep our clients in the loop because after all, it's their investment. I expect my stockbroker to explain what he's doing and planning to do with my money, and therapists should be held to the same expectation. I wouldn't be comfortable with a therapist who couldn't or didn't outline for me what's coming, the why of how I feel, think and behave and how it will be altered through therapy, so how could we ask our clients to be cool with this? We can't. So we don't.
