My Approach to Helping
I can support you in addressing anxiety, complex trauma, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), stress, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), family violence, interpersonal conflict, and other life difficulties. Currently, I work exclusively with individuals.
I approach therapy work from a person-centred, holistic approach of understanding what you’re going through, and seeking to work collaboratively with you to address your challenges through evidence-based therapeutic strategies.
More Info About My Practice
I have a master's in clinical social work from the University of Calgary, where our coursework was focused on supporting individuals and families with mental health challenges from a holistic perspective, considering a range of factors such as environmental stressors, history, and practical supports and interventions.
I have trained in various evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, solution-focused therapy (SFT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) Level 1 and Level 2. I have also taken a variety of trainings focused on trauma-informed care, family violence, suicide, and safety assessment and planning, cultural sensitivity training, LGBTQ2S+ affirming care, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) strategies, mindfulness interventions, and other topics.
Had a Negative Therapy Experience?
Many clients come in talking about how they didn?t feel like either they were understood by their previous therapist or that they didn?t feel like they were making progress. This is why I emphasize building our ?therapeutic alliance? which basically means we are on the same page! You feel understood by me, you know generally know what to expect in therapy and agree with the plan, and we check in on where we are at in therapy and if you feel adjustments need to be made. It?s important that you feel safe to share your honest perspective on how therapy is going and what?s working and not working, so I intentionally strive towards this safety.
