My Approach to Helping
My approach to therapy differs based on the personality of the individual and the problem they are facing. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process. I may be an expert on the therapeutic techniques, but the client is the expert about their own life. I enjoy helping people to set their own goals. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing a person reach those goals and have developed enough insight into themselves to be confident in not needing weekly sessions. I also understand that getting to therapy is not always an easy process. Sometimes schedules are busy or there is not a mental health provider nearby. For this reason, I provide distance therapy.
More Info About My Practice
I am currently licensed in the state of Virginia. I am continuing to provide distance therapy to people around the state of Virginia. I am working towards licensure in the state of Florida. I have an office location in Lake Mary where I see people under supervision. Distance therapy is also available to those living in Florida. I have a background in clinical psychology and health psychology. I enjoy working with people dealing with eating disorders, weight management, diabetes management, adjusting to chronic illness, and caregivers. I also have had experience providing more traditional therapy to people struggling with mental health issues such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, etc.
My Role as a Therapist
I feel that my role as a therapist is to help someone reach their goals and full potential. I try to help people create small weekly goals that will lead to them reaching their overall bigger goal. In addition, my role is also to help someone develop skills that may aid them in the future should they go through a rough patch again. I like to talk about coping strategies outside of the therapy session that can be used later on.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
It is incredibly important to find the right match for you. One of the most practical things to consider is where is their office and will it make it difficult to make it to sessions. I try and provide a flexible schedule with some evening hours, lunch break hours, and the occasional morning. I also provide distance therapy which helps those who have a busy schedule or do not live near a practicing psychologist. In addition, personality is a big factor. It is important the person you work with is someone you feel you can trust and talk to.
