My Approach to Helping
Life is beautiful, but it can be hard to face the challenges that come with it sometimes. Whether it be medical issues, familyrelationship problems, or just common life stresses, all of us have challenges to overcome. Some challenges are short-lived and can be overcome with small adaptations of our mindset andor coping strategies. Others, however, can be quite daunting and complex, such as trauma and addiction. I believe that regardless of the issues we face, we all want basically the same things - to feel safe and comfortable with ourselves, within our relationships, and in the world.
As a therapist with over 30 years of experience, I have experience working with a wide range of populations and issues. I tailor my approach to each person, using techniques taken from therapy models such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed approaches. My approach tends to be eclectic as I select interventions based on what I feel is most helpful and best suited for each individual. Therapy starts with a thorough psychosocial assessment from which we will create a preliminary treatment plan. As we proceed in therapy, I am always assessing to determine if what we are doing is working and I encourage you to freely give feedback or ask questions. It's your therapy and my goal is to empower you, help you access your own strengths, and provide you with tools that make life's challenges more manageable.
It takes courage to reach out for help. I recognize this and I honor this by creating a therapeutic space that is open, warm, and safe. I view therapy as a collaborative process and my role as a guide who helps you explore and discover new perspectives, acquire new skills, and tap into your inner wisdom.
