My Approach to Helping

As a counselor I come from a humanistic therapeutic perspective, which operates on three core components: positive regard, acceptance, and authenticity. I strive to provide a therapeutic environment where you will feel safe and comfortable. My belief is that these conditions create an environment where you will be able to experiment with new ways of being; such as changing unwanted behaviors or attitudes, emotional processing, and learning to live in line with personal values.
My past personal experiences with my own mental health and seeing therapists has informed my practice. Through personal and professional experiences I have learned that psychological interventions will work best when they are tailored to the person. I works collaboratively with my clients to identify and implement the correct interventions, over time.
Please feel free to ask me specific questions about my training or approach, if you wish!

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

It is important to find a therapist whom you feel comfortable with. We all have different training, life experiences, personalities, and so forth. Just like with anything in life, the first therapist you meet may not be the right person for you. Do not feel bad if you need to try more than on therapist "on for size." Find a person and an approach that works for you and go from there! I offer a free 15-20 minute initial phone consultation for this very reason!

Groups I Work With

I enjoy working with client who may be experiencing larger than "normal" amounts of anxiety. I find it personally rewarding to help others navigate challenging relationships, improve communication skills, and ultimately learn to trust (or even like) themselves. Often those who come to see me are looking for a kind listening ear, and someone to feel connected to whilst working on personal struggles.
