My Approach to Helping
Hello, My name is Sarah, and it is a pleasure to meet you! If you are struggling, feeling anxious, or feeling lost, then I invite you to reach out to me. Together, we can discuss the issues you are struggling with.
As a counselor I provide an environment where you will receive unconditional positive regard, acceptance, and genuineness. I focus on helping my clients to feel secure and safe in the therapeutic environment so that the deeper therapeutic work can be done.
I am generally non-directive as a therapist; meaning that I believe you are the expert of their own experience. Rather than offering direct advice, I see myself as a non-judgmental witness, co-pilot, or gentle guide. My role is to listen, reflect, empathize, and help you explore your own experience; rather than to offer direct advice or solutions.
When appropriate I may incorporate direct interventions (such as exposure therapy, worry management, or skills training); prior to doing so I will explain the intervention and ask your permission to incorporate it into our therapeutic explorations.
In addition to my training as a counselor, I have a background in Massage Therapy, Yoga, and the Theater Arts. Please feel free to ask me specific questions about my training or approach, if you wish!
