My Approach to Helping
Multi-cultural first generation somatic mindfulness therapist with 12+ years of experience, EMDR & Brainspotting, Hakomi certified, IFS informed.
Since 2011 I've been working largely with the global majority BIPOC identifying folks. I am body affirming, sex positive, and an LGBTQi ally. This work is sacred, and given that at the crux of my practice I focus on creating a safe space where all parts of you; spiritually, culturally, sexually, etc., can deeply land and unfurl. I tend to provide depth oriented long term therapy, however some of the modalities that I am trained in such as EMDR and Brainspotting can provide fast results for those that are wanting more strategic short term therapy.
My background and approach:
I'm aware that each person isa universe unto themselves containing multitudes. Given that, I am a firm believer that within us lives all the answers and wisdom we are seeking. As an informed guide I provide a transformative space for clients to deeply unwind old hurts, and trauma. Together we create a solid safe container in support of releasing & rewriting old stories and frameworks. I am culturally attuned, trauma informed and have been consistently in continuing education since completing my masters in 2011 [Hakomi, EMDR, Brainspotting, IFS informed, Trauma, DEI, Neuroscience, Expressive arts, Attachment, etc.]. Our work together will be collaborative, and attuned to your pace and needs. Alongside this orientation I frequently weave in neuroscience and tools such as Brainspotting and EMDR alongside an IFS informed model. These access and rewire with the subcortical part of the brain where trauma is stored. This will allow your neural pathways to shift, and support you in regulating your nervous system, so you have more access to ease and peace.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests:
My journey as a therapist began in community mental health; my social justice orientation brought me into this work and my deep commitment to help marginalized communities heal trauma. For 5 years I provided therapy to foster youth, youth on probation, led family reunification therapy for foster youth, and worked with urban BIPOC populations of children, teens, and adults. I then transitioned to private practice in the beginning of 2017 working individually with adults and teens in Berkeley, CA. I believe that our liberation is tied up together. Each person that is able to digest old pain and step into an integrated wholeness within themselves creates more health for society. This work is a spiritual practice for me; we are each just walking each other home to our true Selves.
