My Approach to Helping

Less Talking, More Doing.

Hi, I’m Mike Morde, I’m a licensed mental health counselor and addictions therapist based in Pittsford, New York.

I’m pretty excited to share with you what I consider to be the future of behavioral psychology, and it’s going to help you—like it has with my clients—with your mental health or addictions concerns. It’s something called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, also called ACT.

So, there’s this ridiculous idea in our Western culture that we’re always supposed to be happy: The newest clothes, bigger cars, get a skinny and sexy figure and the newest smartphone that just came out an hour ago. All of this pressure has contributed to skyrocketing mental health and addiction issues, regardless of your genetic predispositions.

ACT bridges a gap between Eastern and Western Psychology, grounded in the idea that it’s not your distressing thoughts and emotions that are the problem, instead it’s actually your relationship with those thoughts and emotions. ACT illuminates a path through your psychological suffering, using realistic strategies for what you can do about your concerns, so that you can start living a life that’s richer, fuller, and more meaningful.

Which is also why the slogan for my practice is Less Talking, More Doing.

If you’ve tried traditional talk therapy and you didn’t find it helpful, it’s time to try something new. Contact me today, so we can schedule your free consultation.

More Info About My Practice

For over a decade, I've worked with clients with a wide range of mental health and addiction concerns. Throughout my career, I've evaluated and diagnosed over a thousand patients. I've learned a lot about what clients need, what they want, and the pitfalls they often encounter in realizing their dreams for themselves, their relationships, and their future.

An experienced therapist can effectively help you gain insight into your thoughts and feelings, enable you to become more compassionate and forgiving of yourself, and help you become empowered with to help you live the life you want.

What Makes up a Problem?

The benefit of seeing a private confidential therapist who understands addiction from the inside-out is the freedom to work on your issues without fear of judgment, and to make informed choices in an objective environment. I only ask that you enter therapy from a place of curiosity and a willingness to work on yourself both during and in-between our sessions. Together we'll use strategies to help you get back on track to living a full and meaningful life. There is no easy fix to addiction or a magic pill. But you do have potential and the ability to address temptation when it strikes, and make healthier choices in line with who you want to be.
